Missing – Found

Kingston Police say a 16 year girl who had been reported missing on the weekend has been located.

Police had asked the public for help in locating the girl who had last been seen on Friday night at the Cataraqui Centre.

She was located yesterday and is fine.

 

Municipal Election

The municipal election is just three weeks away and there are a series of all candidates meetings this week.

The Coalition of Kingston Communities has two session scheduled for tonight.

Candidates Bittu George and Georgina Riel have confirmed they’ll be in attendance at the Loyalist-Cataraqui session at 6:30 at Holsgrove School.

The Kingscourt – Rideau all-candidates session takes place at the Kingston Community Health Centre starting at 6:30.

Candidates Cheryl-Anne Dorey Bennett, Mary Rita Holland and Darryl McIntosh have confirmed they’ll be attending.

 

Napanee & Belleville – Doctors

Napanee and Belleville will become home to a total of eight new family doctors in the near future.

Three family physicians have signed an agreement to open a primary care practice in Napanee.

The Hastings County and Greater Napanee Family Physician Recruitment Program had offered a $20,000 incentive for new medical school graduates to set up practice.  Anyone who needs a family doctor will have to apply through Health Care Connect.

Belleville Mayor Taso Christopher announced last week that five new family physicians have signed onto the Physician Recruitment program for Belleville.

Kingston City Council has agreed to look into a shortage of family physicians in Kingston…but Kingston does not currently have a physician recruitment program.

 

GoFundMe – Westport Rideaus

The Westport Rideaus Junior B hockey team postponed their weekend games after a crash last week left a player in critical condition. 16 year old Callum Maybury suffered severe injuries when he was ejected from a vehicle that crashed on the way home from hockey practice a week ago today.

A GoFundMe campaign has been launched to help his family. The goal was $10,000 and it has already raised almost $19,000.

New Millionaires

There are a couple of new millionaires in Kingston.

The Ontario Lottery and Gaming Corporation says two MAXMILLIONS tickets from Friday night’s Lotto Max draw were sold in Kingston.

There was also a $100,000 Encore winner from a ticket sold in the Kingston-area.

 

Feustel – The Hip – Space Station

Canadian astronaut and Queen’s University grad Drew Feustel has teamed up with The Tragically Hip to record a music video from space.

Feustel is currently the commander of the International Space Station and sent a message from the station thanking Gord Sinclair for the lyrics and motivation.

The video was produced in Kingston and is posted on the NASA YouTube channel.

His message says he is thankful for the support of family, friends, and colleagues and that love is all around us and all around the world.

 

Traffic – LaSalle Causeway

Public Services and Procurement Canada advises that Oct.1 to 10 there will be the following La Salle Causeway lane closures to allow for necessary inspections:

  • Alternating lane closures: from 9 a.m. Monday, Oct.  1 to 3 p.m. Friday, Oct. 5 AND from 7 p.m. Tuesday, Oct. 9 to 6 a.m. Wednesday, Oct. 10.
  • Intermittent full closures (including sidewalks): 7:30 to 9:40 p.m. on Monday, Oct. 1 and Tuesday, Oct. 2.
