Election Day

It’s Election Day in Ontario and by tomorrow the province will have a very different government.  Even Liberal Premier Kathleen Wynne has conceded she won’t be returning as premier…her party is a distant third in the polls.

The latest McLean’s/Pollara poll shows both the Tories and NDP tied at 38% support with the Liberals at 17%.

Attempted Murder

A 48 year old Kingston man has been charged with attempted murder after his ex was assaulted in her home.

Police have charged the man with breaking into the residence through an unlocked door on Tuesday night.

They say the woman was choked until she was unconscious.  She was taken to hospital for treatment.

The man has been charged with attempted murder, break and enter, assault with a weapon and five counts of breach of probation.

Vehicles Damaged

Kingston Police say the investigation is ongoing but two people have been arrested after over a dozen vehicles were broken into in Kingston’s North end.

The damage was done sometime between midnight and 4am yesterday.  Vehicles had windows smashed and items ranging from cash to electronics stolen.

Heroic Rescue – Kingston Cop

A Kingston Police officer should get some well-deserved recognition after rescuing a disabled man from the second storey of a burning apartment building.

Constable Walter O’Connor found flames in the stairwell and decided to scale the wall of the building to get to the man.  He climbed up his partners back…then used a pipe to help him climb the outside wall of the burning building at 16 Russell Street.  Firefighters arrived on the scene and O’Connor says they took the man down a ladder and he followed.  After a short breather with the help of some oxygen from paramedics – the officer returned to work and finished his regular shift.

Police say the fire is a case of arson and anyone with information about it is being asked to contact Kingston Police.

Brier Bid

Tourism Kingston says it has surpassed its goal of selling 2,020 deposits of $50.00 for the Canadian Curling Championship.

It says 2,098 deposits were put down during the campaign to help Kingston win its bid for the 2020 Brier.

Curling Canada will choose the host city for the 2020 brier this fall.
