KGH – Thompson Leaving

Kingston General Hospital is looking for a new President and CEO.
Leslee Thompson won’t seek renewal of her contract when it ends in 10 months.
Thompson hasn’t said what her plans are for her future.
She took over the hospital in 2009.  It was in a financial mess and the province had removed the CEO.
Thompson is credited with creating a patient focused environment and turning the hospitals financial situation around.

Commissionaires

The union representing 85 Commissionaires in Kingston says they want paid sick leave as part of a new contract.  The contract dispute between the Corps of Commissionaires and Public Service Alliance of Canada is headed to conciliation after contract talks broke off at the end of last month.
The Commissionaires provide security at Canadian Forces Base Kingston.
The union says they are military veterans who earn an average of $13 an hour and have no sick days.
Their contract expired in June of last year.

Missing Man

Kingston Police detectives now believe a missing Kingston man is in the Sudbury area or is heading west to Alberta.  They received information Monday night that 59 year old Terry M. CLARK was in Sudbury, but he couldn’t be located.  Clark was last seen in Kingston on the morning of Thursday, April 9th.
His family is concerned for his well-being and police say he needs prescription medication.


Drug Bust

The Kingston Police drug unit wrapped up a month long investigation into drugs being sold at local hotels with the arrest of a 27 year old parolee.  They’ve also issued a warrant for the arrest of another Kingston man.
Devin Victor has been charged with drug trafficking after being arrested early yesterday morning.
Police seized methamphetamine, heroin and cocaine with a street value of $90,000.
An arrest warrant has been issued for 23 year old Gavin R. Daley for drug trafficking and breach of probation.

Victoria Park – Water Feature

Upgrades to Victoria Park will be the topic of a public meeting tonight.
The session from 7-9pm at St. Joseph/St Mary School will let people give the city feedback on a new water feature, gathering place and other amenities.
The park’s popular wading pool is being removed this spring.
The consultant hired by the city will use feedback from tonight’s session to draw up two proposals that will be the topic of another public meeting on May 13th.

Crystal Ball

The deadline for students to audition for Crystal Ball mentorship opportunities has been extended by a week.
Students who will be heading back to Limestone District School Board schools in September are eligible for mentorships in four categories…music, visual arts, design and media.
Auditions have to be uploaded by April 24th.

Moose Season

Ontario will issue fewer moose tags to hunters this year and delay the start of next year’s hunting season by a week across much of the north because of declining populations. The number of moose tags for resident hunters will be cut by 15 per cent across the province, while the hunting season for moose calves in northern Ontario will be shortened this year.
