Murder Charge

A woman from Napanee has been charged with first degree murder in the death of a newborn baby.
23 year old Kristen Pemberton had originally been charged with neglecting to obtain assistance in child birth after being arrested by the RCMP in Banff last week.
During a court appearance in Napanee yesterday…Pemberton was charged with first degree murder, concealing the body of a child, failing to obtain assistance and indignity to a body.
The body of the newborn was found at a residence on Palace Road in Napanee on May 9th.

Search – 1993 Cold Case

Kingston Police and the OPP are searching an area along North Shore Road for evidence in the case of a man who has been missing since 1993.
Police began the search yesterday in a renewed investigation into the disappearance of Gordon Cameron…owner of a Westbrook auto body shop.
Kingston Police spokesperson, Constable Steve Koopman, says police believe Cameron was a murder victim and the 22 year old case is connected to the Outlaws Motorcycle gang and the 1992 murder of Kevin John MacPherson.  His body was found in two barrels in a creek near the current search area.

Kingston – Crane Fire

The cause of the construction fire that saw a crane operator rescued by helicopter in Kingston will never be known.
According to court documents…the Fire Marshal was not able to determine the specific cause or origin of the fire.
The court case stemming from the fire ended last week with Jay Patry Enterprises, Jay Patry, Nathan Patry and Troy Stelmach pleaded guilty to charges laid by the Ministry of Labour.
The company and three men have been fined a total of $74,000.


Noise Bylaw Approval

Kingston City Council has approved a one-year extension to a noise bylaw exemption for Richardson Stadium and Miklas-McCarney Field.
Queen’s University had requested the extension.
It will allow noise at the fields between the hours of 9 a.m. and 9 p.m….seven days a week.

Boating – Life Jackets

A day of fun on the St. Lawrence River near Rockport turned into an expensive lesson about safety.
The Coast Guard stopped a 20 foot Boston Whaler with 10 teens on board on Saturday and found only five life jackets.
The operator was a 15 year old.
The owner was charged for permitting the operation of her vessel without the appropriate number of life jacket and fined $730.00.

Lockdown Over

The lockdown that started Friday at the medium security unit at Joyceville Institution has ended and visits have resumed.  The Correctional Service says a number of unauthorized items were found during an exceptional search at Joyceville.
A news release says the search was conducted to ensure a safe and secure environment at the prison.
