Attempted Murder – Arrest

A 50 year old man from Kitchener will appear in a Kingston court room today for a bail hearing after being charged with attempted murder and aggravated assault.
Police were called to the Mac’s at Division and Stephen Streets around 7:30 yesterday morning and found a man bleeding from multiple stab wounds.
The 55 year old man was taken to hospital with serious injuries
Police traced the victim’s steps back to a Joseph Street apartment complex where they arrested the 50 year old man from Kitchener.

Drug Trafficking Charges

Two men from Toronto have been arrested on drug trafficking charges in Kingston.
The Kingston Police Drug Unit arrested a 19 year old man and a 20 year old man in a parking lot of a Bath Road apartment complex on Thursday of last week.  Police then executed search warrants at an apartment on Bath Road and a home on Calderwood Drive.
Officers seized crack cocaine and crystal meth with a street value of $100,000 along with two safes, $19,000 cash and multiple cell phones.
A Nissan Altima was also seized.

Car Crash – Charges

A 34 year old man faces charges after a vehicle ran into the garage door of a home on Italia Lane in Kingston at four in the morning last Friday.
The driver took off and when police arrived they found the car with a damaged front bumper and the damaged garage door.  The homeowner called police again around 7am after a man attempted to steal a bicycle from the garage.
Police say it was the same man who crashed into the garage three hours earlier.
Brandon Cruse has been charged with Break and Enter, Mischief, Theft and Possession of Stolen Property.


Car – Fence

Investigators believe the driver of a car that veered off Bayridge drive and went through a fence may have suffered some type of medical problem.  The car came to a stop when it slammed into the deck of a home at about 11:45 yesterday morning.  The driver was taken to hospital for treatment.

Developer – OMB

Kingston developer Jay Patry is hoping the OMB will move his proposed 71 unit development on Frontenac Street forward.  Patry has taken the city to the OMB.
A planner hired by the developer told the opening day of the hearing yesterday, the development meets all zoning and bylaw requirements.
City council voted against the project – but it had been recommended for approval by city staff.

Lottery Win

A man from Kingston has cashed in a winning Encore ticket.
Brian Campbell collected $100,000 dollars in the April 25th Encore draw.
A news release from the Ontario Lottery and Gaming Corporation says Campbell bought the ticket at the Rexall Pharma Plus on Edgar Street and he plans on using the money to help pay for his son’s university education.

Hydro One – Ombudsman

A scathing report from Ontario’s Ombudsman says Hydro One customers were treated abominably after a near computer system resulted in huge billing errors for 100 thousand homes.
Hydro One C-E-O Carmine Marcello says he’s sorry customers weren’t treated well, but denies accusations from Ombudsman Andre Marin that the Crown Corporation lied to the government and his office about the extent of the problem.
Worth noting here…The Ombudsman and Ontario’s auditor general will lose oversight of Hydro One once the Ontario government passes legislation approving the sale of up to 60 per cent of the electrical utility.
