Parking Garage

Plans to build a new municipal parking garage in downtown Kingston are moving into high gear.

City council has authorized spending $211,000 on a consultant to undertake a series of studies on the proposed 350-space garage on the Byron parking lot at 169 Queen Street.

It is currently a 74 space surface parking lot.

The city has budgeted $18 million to construct a new parking garage in the next few years.

Man Charged – Struggle Involves Baby

A 35 year old Kingston man has been charged after a domestic dispute that wound up with a struggle over a baby.  Police were called to a home on Wednesday afternoon and found a man and woman fighting over their baby after the man had tried to flee with the child.

It turns out he wasn’t supposed to be in contact with the woman as part of his probation.  Police say he had repeatedly visited her and assaulted her.

He’s been charged with six counts of assault, being unlawfully in a dwelling, two counts of mischief and five counts of breach probation.

Arson – Small Fires Set

Kingston Police hope the public can help them track down the person who lit several small fire in the Elm Street and Chatham Street area.

Two garbage pails were set on fire late Monday night or early Tuesday morning and a vehicle was set on fire on Creighton Street at 2:45 Tuesday morning.

Anyone with information about a suspicious person in the area or who may have home security video is being asked to contact Kingston Police Detective Blair Watt.

Charges – Fight

A fourth young person has been charged in connection with a violent assault that took place in the area of Princess and Division Streets on June 4th.

Police say the victim was targeted by four males and they attacked three Good Samaritans that tried to intervene.

A 19 year old was arrested at the scene…a 23 year old and 17 year old turned themselves in to police in late June and early July.  The final suspect turned himself in early yesterday morning.

Grass Cutting – Women Wrestling

The OPP says it was called to a dispute over grass cutting in the village of Lyn, near Brockville, that wound up with two women wrestling on the ground.

It happened on Sunday afternoon.  Police say they found a 42 year old and a 60 year old woman had wrestled over grass cutting.  Police say because both women consented to fighting each other they escaped with a warning and will not be charged.
