401 Crash – Closure

 

The 401 westbound is open to traffic after it became a parking lot between Gananoque and Joyceville Road Sunday afternoon due to a serious crash.

The crash involving two vehicles closed down the westbound lanes of the highway near Joyceville Road.

At least one person was taken to Hospital by an Ornge air ambulance.

One westbound lane of the 401 was re-opened around six last night and both lanes were open by around 8:30 last night.

 

Kingston Mills Road – Re-Opening

 

Parks Canada says work has finally been completed on Kingston Mills Road.

A portion of the road was washed away at Kingston Mills due to flooding this spring.

The road bed has been rebuilt, a culvert has been installed and the asphalt has been laid to complete the work.

Parks Canada says Kingston Mills Road is due to re-open this afternoon – weather permitting.

 

Front Road – Bridge Work

 

Construction on the Front Road Bridge is scheduled to resume today.

The work was stopped in May because of the high water level on Lake Ontario.

You can expect lane reductions on the bridge near the Invista plant starting today.

 

Kingston Pen Tours

 

The St. Lawrence Parks Commission says tours of Kingston Penitentiary have become so popular it is introducing 7,000 new 2 and a half hour Premium Tours for this season.

Premium Tours cost $55 a person and the group size is limited to 12 people.

The prison has been a popular attraction again this summer.  So far there have been over 53 thousand tickets sold generating 1.2 million dollars in revenue and could reach $4 million by the end of this fall.

The parks commission says Kingston Pen and Fort Henry are important destination attractions that draw visitors to Kingston.

 

Kingston Colts – GoFundMe

 

A team of 13 year old baseball players is hoping people in Kingston will pitch in to make their trip to the Canadian Little League Baseball Championships a reality.

The Kingston Colts won the Ontario championship and are scheduled to leave for the Canadian championship in Langley, B.C. on Thursday.

This is the first time a Kingston team has qualified for the tournament.

A GoFundMe page has been set up in hopes of raising $5,000 for the team.

Flying Legends

 

A World War II B-17 Bomber is making a stop in Kingston as part of its Summer Flying Legends of Victory Tour across the U.S. and Canada.

The B-17 Bomber will be open for the public to tour at the Kingston airport starting this afternoon.

It will also be taking people on flights Friday, Saturday and Sunday.  The cost is 425 dollars U-S to ride in the planes compartment and $850 U-S to fly in the bombardier/navigator seats in the nose.

The plane known as the Flying Fortress is one of three World War II aircraft operated by volunteers of the non-profit Arizona Commemorative Air Force Museum.
