RIMBEY, Alta. — A woman who lost more than $1,000 in a grocery store in central Alberta has her money back.

RCMP Cpl. Laurel Scott says someone from the store in Rimbey turned in an envelope containing the money back in February.

Scott says the woman thought the money was lost forever and didn’t think anyone would turn it in, so didn’t go to police.

When no one came forward right away, police put out a request on Monday asking for help to find the owner.

Scott says the woman’s family heard it on the radio and told her about it.

The woman correctly identified how much it was, and where she thought she left it behind, and Mounties handed it over to her.

“We’re super pleased to be able to return it to her, it’s a great outcome,” Scott said Wednesday, adding it’s also wonderful someone was honest and turned it in.

It shows that people should always report something that’s been lost, because it could be found and handed in to police, Scott said.

“You never know if one day somebody will find it, turn it in and we can review our files.”
