Quebec Mosque – Shooting

Prime Minister Justin Trudeau is calling the mass shooting inside a Quebec City mosque a “terrorist attack on Muslims in a place of worship and refuge.”

Police in Quebec City say they have arrested two suspects in the shooting last night that left six people dead and eight injured.

Premier Philippe Couillard says there will be solidarity rallies across Quebec today to support Muslims

The Hip Auction

The auction of special jerseys worn by the Kingston Frontenacs in their game to honour Kingston’s…The Tragically Hip will raise thousands for The Gord Downie Fund for Brain Cancer Research.

The specially designed jerseys are being auctioned off on CHL Auctions website and bids currently total just under $18,000.

The highest bid is $1,060 for the #21 jersey of Ryan Cranford.

Band members Rob Baker, Paul Langlois and Gord Sinclair were on hand for the game Saturday night.

Bidding for the jerseys will close at 6:00 p.m. on Saturday, February 11th.

Trump Protest

People in Kingston and hundreds of communities have demonstrated against Donald Trump’s decision to order a temporary ban on visitors from seven Muslim-majority countries.  A group of about 200 people gathered in Springer Market Square yesterday to condemn the executive order signed by Trump.

People in Kingston carried signs…some read…No Ban – No Wall….Refugees Welcome and No One is Illegal.

Ordinance Street Fire

Fire has caused extensive damage to a home on Ordnance Street.

Kingston Fire and Rescue responded to the call to 148 Ordnance Street shortly before 5 p.m. on Saturday.  Firefighters found the building filled with smoke.  The fire had started in the laundry room and spread into the wall and roof of the home.

Nobody was injured and damage is estimated at $110,000.

HMV Closing

15 people will be out of work when the HMV store at the Cataraqui Centre in Kingston closes.

HMV announced on Friday it will be closing all its stores after going into receivership.

Court documents say the company is losing 100-thousand dollars a day as customers increasingly switch to online shopping.
