Weston Bakery Closing

 

The Weston Foods plant on Railway Street in Kingston will be closing this spring.  Employees were told about the closure yesterday afternoon.

35 people will lose their jobs when the bakery closes.  Weston Foods had laid off 30 employees in Kingston just over two months ago.

The company says production in Kingston is being shifted to other locations.

The warehouse will remain open.  It currently employs 11 people.

 

UCCO – Segregation

 

Correctional Officers are upset with new legislation that has eliminated segregation in federal prisons.

Inmates who are considered to be a danger are now being placed in what are known as structured intervention units.  The Ontario President of the union, Rob Finucan, says inmates are openly saying there is nothing correctional officers can do because they can’t be put in segregation.

The Kingston based union is speaking out after an officer at Warkworth Institution was attacked on January 16th and required 11 stitches to close a gash on his face.

 

Woman Charged

 

A police chase in Kingston has resulted in multiple charges for a woman who was under court conditions that should have prevented her from driving.

Kingston Police say they tried to stop a vehicle that ran a red light at Benson and Division Streets on Wednesday night and almost hit another vehicle.  The car eventually pulled into a parking lot on Wilson Street.  Police say the found a baseball bat and hatchet on the front seat.

A 31-year-old Kingston woman is facing charges of dangerous driving, driving while prohibited and possession of weapons for committing and offence.

 

Conflict First Aid

 

A Kingston based company has launched a first aid program for people dealing with conflict.

Conflict Navigator Incorporated says the curriculum for the program called, Conflict First Aid, was developed over the last 18 months.

The program promises to provide participants with awareness, skills, and resources like cold packs and other first aid materials that support dealing with the stress and cost of frustratingly difficult and disruptive people and issues.

The first 30 certificates will be issued today for new graduates of the two-day program in Kingston.

 

Agostino – Expansion to Toronto

 

A Kingston video production company is opening an office in Toronto.

Agostino Media Group President and CEO, Anthony Agostino, has announced the company is launching a new Toronto office for Viva Productions.

It is located in the downtown financial district and Agostino says it will allow the video production company to better serve clients in the GTA.

Agostino founded Viva Productions in 2010.
