After last year’s 90 Day Challenge, I figured, hey, why not run an 8k.

And after I’d done that, I figured, hey, why not trek a 65k

A 65KM!? No, I didn’t actually think that. It was suggested (lol) – and I didn’t hesitate.

I hail from the Waterloo Region area, and a dear friend of mine has co-organized Waterloo Region Crossing and the trek. Over the past two years, Tessa and her team have grown from a few brave souls willing to give at go, to more than a hundred trekkers last year. They set significant, massive fundraising goals to meet their philanthropist mission; this year looking to raise $100 000 to assist with the homeless in Kitchener/Waterloo. And they could very well make that goal.

From their website:

Waterloo Region Crossing is a not-for-profit endurance events organization. We coordinate endurance events to raise awareness about pressing local issues, and to invite our fellow community members to walk the walk, demonstrating our commitment to improving quality of life for everyone in our community.

Time for me to lace up, suit up, and get started.

Coming out of the holidays, one new relationship & new move to a new town later – I’m well over my weight that I was going into the 8k. But I’m not deterred. In fact, I’m proud of myself for leaning into the holidays, not trying to overexert myself with unrealistic scheduling goals over December (no, I can’t go to the gym five days a week, try to work around holiday schedules, and get through Christmas/New Year). And sometimes our health and wellness is just knowing when it’s time to say “no”.

But now, it’s time to get back ‘er.

I returned to the YMCA on Monday night to meet with Tracy.

And she and I started to formulate a plan, that saw me back up on the cardio.

Time to make friends with salad, and smoothies.

And to take a run on our home gym, if I can’t get into the city.

So here we are.

207lbs, determined, still a non-smoker, and ready to trek 65.

Did I mention it’s coming up February 8th? Yeah. 4 weeks to go.

I’ll keep you posted.
