Snow Day

 

It’s was a snow day for students who attend the North Addington Education Centre in Cloyne.

The Limestone District School Board says all buses to the North Addington Education Centre were cancelled today due to snowy & icy road conditions. The school will be open.

There were also some bus cancellations to Granite Ridge in Sharbot Lake and Land O’ Lakes Public School.

 

Capitol Condo – Developer

 

There is still the chance something will be built on the site of the Capitol Condo Project.

The Local Planning Appeals Tribunal rejected IN8 Developments 16 storey proposal as being too tall for the area.

The developer says it will be working on a new plan to replace the one rejected by the Tribunal.

Mayor Brian Paterson says the issue of providing more housing in the downtown will be a priority for the newly elected city council.

 

Westport – Fatal

 

A 63 year old woman has been killed in a crash near Westport.

It happened Friday afternoon at the intersection of Salem Road and the 9th Concession.

A car and truck collided.

The driver of the car, 63 year old Melanie Mitchell, was pronounced dead at the scene.

Two passengers were sent to hospital for treatment. There were no injuries to the driver of the truck.

 

Madoc – Fatal

 

A 39 year old man from Gilmour, Ontario has died in Kingston General Hospital from injuries suffered in a three vehicle crash near Madoc.  It happened Friday afternoon.  Several other people were taken to Belleville General Hospital for treatment following the crash.

 

Fall Convocation

 

Queen’s University is holding fall convocation ceremonies this week.

Sylvia Maracle will receive an honorary degree during a ceremony this afternoon.

Maracle is from the Tyendinaga Mohawk Territory and Executive Director of the Ontario Federation of Indigenous Friendship Centres.

She was appointed as an Officer of the Order of Canada in 2017 in recognition of her significant contributions to improving the lives of Indigenous people.

A total of six ceremonies are being held at Grant Hall for Fall Convocation this week.

 

Teddy Bear Campaign

 

The Kingston General Hospital Auxiliary is hoping to raise 25 thousand dollars in its annual Teddy Bear campaign.

The Branch 560 Legion is providing the 250 teddy bears for the campaign.

Each can be sponsored for a hundred dollars.

The money raised this year will go to purchase equipment like a scope used to image the back of the eye that is critical in diagnosing things like brain tumors.

The teddy bears will be given to children who are admitted to hospital.
