Power Outage

Just over 3,000 Utilities Kingston customers in mid-town Kingston were hit with a power outage overnight.

The power went out at around 12:30 this morning in the area south of Princess Street between Palace Road and Division Street.  The power was restored after about 3 and a half hours.

Utilities Kingston says the outage was due to a failed device at a substation.

 

Fire – Pine Grove Road

Fire has damaged a home in Kingston.

Firefighters were called to the 3,000 block of Pine Grove Road around 2:10 a.m. Sunday.

There were no injuries in the fire and damage was contained to the building.

An inspector from Kingston Fire and Rescue will be on the scene of the fire today to try to determine how it started.

 

Crash

One person has been charged with careless driving after an early morning crash in Kingston.

Two vehicles collided on Bath Road in the area of Centennial Drive around 4:15 this morning.  Two people were taken to hospital.  Both vehicles were heavily damaged.

 

Sharbot Lake – Fatal

A 64-year-old man from Sharbot Lake has died after being hit by a vehicle on Highway 7 in Sharbot Lake.  The OPP says Wayne Kimberley died as a result of his injuries on Friday.

Police say Kimberley was walking along the north shoulder of the highway at approximately 5:45 on Friday morning when he was struck by a vehicle which left the scene.

 

Iran – Plane – Vigils

Vigils have been held across the country to remember the victims of Ukraine International Airlines Flight 7-5-2.

57 were Canadians and dozens of others had ties to Canada.

Several hundred people attended a vigil at Queen’s University on Friday for Amir Moradi.  The third year Arts and Science student died on the crash.

More than two-thousand people gathered in Edmonton yesterday for a memorial, including Prime Minister Justin Trudeau.

Nuclear Alert

The Ontario government says it is investigating how a province-wide alert about an “incident” at the Pickering Nuclear Generating Station was sent out accidentally on Sunday morning.

Ontario Solicitor General Sylvia Jones says the error happened during a routine training exercise.

Jones says the investigation will examine the sequence of events that led to the alert being sent out and what measures should be in place to make sure a mistake like that doesn’t happen again.
