Wrong Way Crash – 401

 

An 85 year old woman who was driving the wrong way on the 401 in Kingston has suffered critical injuries in a collision.

The OPP says it was notified about a car entering the 401 at Gardiners Road heading west in the eastbound lanes shortly before 3pm on Saturday.  The vehicle collided with another vehicle sending the 85 year old woman to hospital.  The other driver and their passenger were not injured.

The 401 eastbound was closed for several hours while police investigated.

A second crash happened as traffic slowed down for the first one…it involved 3 cars and a transport trailer and caused a second closure for 2 hours at County Road 4. There were only minor injuries as a result of the second collision.

 

Kingston Police – SIU

 

The provinces police watchdog is investigating a collision in Kingston that involved a cyclist and a police cruiser.  A 39 year old man suffered serious injuries in the collision around 1:30 a.m. on September 19th.  He was cycling on Portsmouth Avenue near Calderwood Drive.  He complained to the provinces Special Investigations Unit on October 15th. It is now investigating to determine if two Kingston Police officers were at fault.

 

Napanee – Homeless Evictions

 

A man in Napanee who has been housing homeless people in trailers on his property has received a final eviction notice from the town.

Scott Drader says he will be forced to evict 10 people currently living in trailers on his property and get rid of the trailers.

He got his first notice from the town at the end of June…and the received the final notice on Friday giving him 30 days to evict the tenants and remove the trailers from his property.

 

St. Lawrence

 

St. Lawrence College has announced an agreement with Athabasca University that will allow college graduates from five different programs to get their Bachelor’s Degree.

Students will be able to transfer 60 credits to the university program and complete their degree in two years.

St. Lawrence also offers several other pathways for its grads to get university degrees and is holding an Academic Pathways Fair for students at the Kingston campus on Thursday.

 

OPP – Lock It

 

Frontenac OPP is reminding you to lock your vehicle and take the keys.

They are investigating the theft of three motor vehicles in South and Central Frontenac between October 28th and November 1st.  Police say two of the three vehicles were unlocked and had the keys inside.

 

Batter Recycling

 

If you have been saving up old batteries to recycle…the city is picking them up this week during your normal garbage and recycling day.

You can put used batteries out for collection in a clear…sealed plastic bag.  The city says the best place to leave the bag is beside your recycling box or next to your garbage container.

 

Napanee Angler

 

A woman from Napanee has completed her first international bass fishing tournament on Lake Guntersville in Alabama.

Ashley Rae finished 44th in the FLW Costa Championship on Lake Guntersville that wrapped up yesterday.  She placed second in the International category.

Rae qualified for the U-S tournament by winning the FLW Canada Cup bass tournament on the Bay of Quinte this summer with Erik Luzak of Orillia, Ontario.  Luzak fished separately at the U-S tournament on the weekend and finished 37th overall.  He placed first in the International category.
