Fairfield Manor East – Order to Vacate

 

The Local Health Integration Network is working on finding new homes for the 23 residents of Fairfield Manor East.  Kingston Fire and Rescue has ordered the facility to vacate over concerns about the safety of its 23 residents.  It says the owner is not able to meet fire code requirements.

Two firefighters have been stationed at the home since Monday to ensure residents can be safely evacuated.  A news release from the City of Kingston says firefighters will remain at Fairfield Manor East while the residents are being moved.

Fairfield Manor West was ordered to vacate on Monday over the same fire safety concerns.

 

New Police Chief

 

Kingston’s new police chief has been a member of the force for 33 years.

The Kingston Police Services Board announced yesterday it has chosen Deputy Police Chief Antje McNeely to be the next Chief of Police.  McNeely started her career in Kingston in April of 1985.  She became deputy chief in 2011.  A change of command ceremony will take place on November 30th.

McNeely replaces retiring Police Chief Gilles Larochelle.

 

Lockdown – Millhaven

 

A lockdown is in place and a search is underway at Millhaven Institution.  The Correctional Service says the exceptional search started on Wednesday afternoon and is taking place to ensure the safety and security of the institution, staff and inmates.

People who had planned a visit at Millhaven are being advised to contact the institution while the lockdown is in place.

 

Operation Safe Ride.

 

Kingston Police, Belleville Police, the OPP and Ministry of Transportation are conducting a campaign to get illegally modified vehicles off the road.  They’re taking part in Operation Safe Ride this week in three communities.  It started in Napanee on Wednesday where half of the vehicles that were stopped were taken off the road.  Owners will need to have the vehicles pass a safety check before they can get back on the road.

The campaign wraps up today in an unnamed community after modified vehicles were checked in Kingston yesterday.

 

Seeley’s Bay – Break In

 

The OPP is investigating a break in at the Ultramar gas station in Seeley’s Bay.

Police responded to an alarm at the gas station at 5 a.m. yesterday.  They discovered a window had been broken and merchandise was stolen.  Police had the station cordoned off with yellow tape yesterday morning while they conducted their investigation.

 

Poker Run and Race

 

The roar of engines on the water will invade Gananoque this weekend.

Power Boating Canada is holding a Poker Run on Saturday and a race between two of the world’s fastest boats on Sunday.

It begins today with the launch of the poker run boats at Joel Stone Park, in Gananoque.

 

Multicultural Festival

 

Confederation Park will become a cultural meeting place on Sunday.  The Kingston Multicultural Arts Festival is taking place in the park from 11:30 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. on Sunday.

There will be 22 pavilions, music, dancing and six free art workshops with local Kingston artists.
