School Buses

 

School buses were running in Kingston this morning as above freezing temperatures arrived in the area overnight.

Tri-board student transportation buses were running for the Limestone District Board, the Algonquin and Lakeshore Catholic Board and the Hastings Prince Edward Board.

It was a different story east of Kingston.

Student transportation of Eastern Ontario cancelled all student transportation for the Upper Canada District Board and the Catholic Board of Eastern Ontario.

 

Update – Cliff Crescent Fire

 

Neighbours are pitching in to help a woman and her children after fire destroyed their home on Cliff Crescent.

Kingston Fire and Rescue was called to the townhouse unit shortly before two o’clock yesterday afternoon.  Heavy smoke was coming the unit and there was extensive damage.

Nobody was injured but the family lost everything in the fire and had no insurance.

Firefighters were called back to Cliff Crescent at 5:30 yesterday afternoon after the fire flared up again.

 

Human Trafficking – Kingston

 

Three men from the Greater Toronto Area have been charged with human trafficking by Kingston police.

The 18 year old from Brampton, 20 year old and 18 year olds from Mississauga face charges of operating a human trafficking ring that spanned from London, Ontario to Kingston.

The 18 year old man from Brampton has also been charged with criminal harassment by threatening conduct, kidnapping, sexual interference, and sexual assault.

Kingston Police started their investigation in late September when a person observed the men interacting with three women at a Kingston Motel, got suspicious and contact police.

Police say one of the victims was a 14 year old girl from Hamilton, one was an 18 year old woman from St. Catherines and the other was a 20 year old woman from the Woodstock area.

 

Cruiser – Transport Crash

 

A 29-year-old truck driver from Quebec has been charged with careless driving after a car ended up on top of an OPP cruiser on the 401 westbound near Belleville.

Police were on the scene of another collision on Saturday and the cruiser was parked behind the crash scene with its emergency lights going.

The transport truck carrying cars jack-knifed and hit the police cruiser.  One of the cars came off the trailer and landed on top of the cruiser.  The officer was still inside the cruiser but was not injured.

 

Lockdown Ends – Collins Bay

 

The lockdown in the maximum security unit at Collins Bay Institution is over.

The lockdown and an exceptional search started after a fight on Friday resulted in an inmate being injured and taken to hospital for treatment.

A number of contraband items were seized during the search and the maximum security unit at the prison resumed normal operations yesterday.

The correctional service says the inmates involved in the fight have been identified and appropriate action has been taken.

 

Queen’s Construction

 

 

The final panes of glass are being installed to close in the new $77 million Innovation and Wellness Centre at Queen’s University.

Crews will work inside the building over the winter months.

The Innovation and Wellness Centre is scheduled to open in the fall of 2018.

 

Kingston Construction Association – Gift

 

St. Lawrence College has received a major gift from the Kingston Construction Association.

The construction association has given the college’s Uncommon Campaign $30,000.

The gift is earmarked for support of the Skilled Trades Equipment Fund.
