The power outages hit Central and South Frontenac.

The power was restored by crews overnight.

Pot Chiefs

Kingston Police Chief Gilles Larochelle says he’s not just concerned about drug impaired drivers – he’s also concerned about the cost of training officers to detect those drivers.

Kingston’s police chief is hosting a meeting of the board of Directors of the Ontario Association of Chiefs of Police.

The president of the organization…Chief Brian Larkin…of the Waterloo Regional Police says they’re expecting an increase in drug impaired driving when pot is legalized next year.   The police chiefs meeting wraps up today at the Four Points by Sheraton.

Hospice Kingston

Hospice Kingston has received the support of the South East Local Health Integration Network for government funding for a 10 bed residential hospice.  The Local Health Integration Network oversees health care spending in the region.  It has endorsed Hospice Kingston’s bid to get funding…the first step in the funding process.  Under the proposal the province would pay for 7 of the beds and Hospice Kingston would fund the three other beds.   The plan is to build the hospice at the Providence Village campus on Princess Street near Sir John A. Macdonald Boulevard.

United Way Update

The United Way campaign will get a boost from Invista today.

The nylon plant is holding a Fish Fry for the United Way from today to kick of its fund raising campaign.

The campaign goal for the United Way of Kingston, Frontenac, Lennox and Addington is $3,501,000.

The campaign thermometer hit 27% of that goal yesterday with just over $954,000 raised so far.

New School – Naming

The Limestone District School Board is looking for suggestions for the name of Kingston’s new high school and intermediate school.  The integration committee says entries should represent the names of famous Canadians and other names should reflect a positive image of the community.

The new school will replace KCVI, QECVI and Module Vanier

Construction is expected to begin in the near future and the school board hopes it will be open by September of 2019.

There’s a link to the naming survey on the Limestone District School Board website.
