Crash Fatal – 401

 

There has been another fatal crash on the 401 in Eastern Ontario.

The eastbound lanes of the 401 were closed this morning at Long Sault following the crash involving three tractor trailers.

The three big rigs were involved in the crash around 11:30 last night.

One erupted into flames and the driver died.

The two other drivers were not injured.

The OPP closed the eastbound lanes to investigate.

 

Stabbing – Kingston

 

No arrest has been made yet after a stabbing in Kingston.

A 27 year old man suffered wounds to his neck, arm and hand early yesterday morning.

Police were called to the area of Montreal and Thomas Street shortly before 6am yesterday and found the man sitting on the sidewalk.

He was taken to hospital with non-life threatening injuries.

 

90 year old – Fraud

 

A 90 year old woman in Napanee has been ripped off by a man claiming he was a bank manager.

Napanee OPP say the woman received a phone call from the man on August 29th.  She withdrew money from her bank and gave it to the man on the street a short time later.

Unfortunately there’s no surveillance picture and the man’s description could fit any number of people…a white male…around 50…average weight and about six feet tall.

Anyone with information about the incident is being asked to contact the OPP or Crime Stoppers.

 

United Way Kickoff

 

The United Way campaign kicks off today with the Kick-off Breakfast at the Ambassador Conference Resort.

Over 500 supporters will be on hand to hear the campaign goal announcement.

Last year the campaign goal was $3,451,000.  It wound up raising 3.7 million…about a quarter of a million more than the goal.

The money was invested in 75 programs in Kingston, Frontenac, Lennox and Addington.

 

Tim Hortons – Smile Cookie

 

Tim Hortons is launching its Smile Cookie Campaign in Kingston today,

Officials from Tim Hortons will be at Kingston General Hospital this morning to announce the campaign that officially starts on Monday.

All sales of the cookies at Kingston Tims will go the Neonatal Intensive Care Unit at Kingston General Hospital.  Since 2013 it has raised over $280,000 for unit that cares for ill or premature newborn infants.

 

Avro Arrow – Model Found

 

A model of Canada’s infamous jet fighter…the Avro Arrow has been found on the bottom of Lake Ontario off Point Petre in Prince Edward County.

A search crew using a mini-submarine says sonar imagery has confirmed the discovery of a free flight test model of the supersonic jet fighter.

The company that found the model will reveal photos and video footage today.

Nine of the models were launched over Lake Ontario in the 1950s as part of the development of the Avro Arrow.  The fighter plane project was eventually scrapped by the federal government and all of the planes were destroyed.

 

Fun Fest – Weekend Activities

 

CFB Kingston is going all out this year for the Garrison Family Fun Fest.

It takes place on both Saturday and Sunday.

There’s a midway…all kinds of activities…an air show and the Saturday night Great Canadian Rock Show.

The air show from 2-3pm on both Saturday and Sunday involves the Snowbirds and the Canada 150 CF 18 demo jet.

The city’s Streets Alive event is part of the Fun Fest and it takes place Saturday on Navy Way.  It wraps up with fireworks at 8:30 Saturday night.

 

The 8th Annual Kingston Multicultural Arts Festival takes place in Confederations Park on Sunday.

There are 19 Cultural Pavilions participating this year – the highest number ever.
