Arrow – Chest

A 19 year old Kingston man is reported to be in stable condition after having an arrow removed from his chest.

Ben Crittenden had been hunting in a rural area near Tweed yesterday when his crossbow accidentally went off at around 10:30 in the morning.  An arrow pierced his chest.  It just missed his heart and went through his lower left lung.

Crittenden was rushed to Belleville General Hospital and then airlifted to Kingston General Hospital where he underwent emergency surgery.

Highway 15 Crash

Frontenac Paramedics say injuries suffered by three people involved in a crash on Highway 15 were not life threatening.  A pickup truck and a car crashed yesterday morning at the intersection of 15 and Sandhill Road.

The three occupants of the vehicles were treated at the scene and then taken to hospital for treatment.

Rideau Canal

More than two dozen boaters have been freed from the locks on the Rideau Canal just north of Kingston.  The Kingston Mills, Lower Brewers and Upper Brewers lock stations have been closed since last Monday’s record breaking rainfall.  The rest of the locks on the canal have since re-opened.

Yesterday, Parks Canada staff temporarily opened the three lock stations to allow boats to leave.

But the locks will remain closed until the water level come down enough for and they can be sure people can use the system safely.

Sandbanks – Popular

After being hit hard by flooding this spring – Sandbanks Provincial Park is restricting the number of visitors to try and avoid damage to the dunes and beaches.

People were either turned away or decided not to visit because of the long line of traffic on the weekend.  Yesterday it was the same story…Sandbanks Provincial Park reached its capacity and the Outlet and Dunes Beach were closed due to the high volume of visitors.

The park says due to high water levels…the size of the beaches has been reduced and it is limiting parking spaces to avoid overcrowding and to protect the remaining beach and sensitive dune environment.

Runway Extension – Comments

The City of Kingston is moving ahead with its plans to start work on the proposed runway extension at the Norman Rogers Airport this fall.

It’s asking people to file comments on the proposed extension with Transport Canada.

Submissions to Transport Canada can be made until September 18th.

Construction is slated to begin late this fall.  The city says the runway extension will enhance the local and regional economy by supporting a wider range of aircraft and the potential for improved air service.
