Vanluven Road – Fatal – Domestic Dispute

A 73 year old man has died from injuries he suffered in a fire at a house on Vanluven Road.

The OPP says the man had gone to the home of his former spouse on Tuesday and a fight took place.  The 49 year old woman escaped and reported the incident to the OPP at its office in Hartington.

A short time later an OPP office travelling along Vanluven Road notice the fire and called the South Frontenac Fire Department.

The 73 year old man was found inside the house and was taken to hospital where he later died as a result of his injuries.

Police aren’t identifying the man to try and protect the identity of the woman.

Scrap Yard Fire

Kingston Fire and Rescue used foam to knock down flames at ANS Scrap Metal on McAdoo’s Lane.

The fire was reported around 1 p.m. yesterday.  Crews worked to prevent the fire in a pile of scrap metal and vehicles from spreading to an area where gas tanks are stored.  The fire was put out and McAdoo’s Lane re-opened to traffic late yesterday afternoon.

One person was reportedly treated at the scene and taken to hospital by paramedics.

New Air Travel

There will soon be an alternative for people who want to fly from Kingston to Toronto.  Kingston entrepreneur George Scott says his company, Fly Kingston, will offer flights to Toronto Island airport starting next year.  Scott says they should be ready to start service in April, 2017.  The cost will be $399 and the promotional material says Fly Kingston will get you to the Toronto Island airport in less than 50 minutes.

Roberts – Shopping Cart – Youth Homelessness

A man pushing a shopping cart across the country to raise money and awareness about homeless youth arrives in Kingston today.

Joe Roberts was homeless when he was a youth and turned his life around…becoming the CEO of a company.

The public has been invited to walk with him starting at noon at the intersection of Highway 15 and Highway 2.  Roberts is scheduled to arrive at Kingston City Hall at one this afternoon.

Tomorrow he’ll speak with students at Regiopolis Notre Dame Catholic High School, speak at a fundraising luncheon and he will meet with frontline agencies that deal with youth homelessness.

UW Hit $1 Million

The United Way Campaign in Kingston, Frontenac, Lennox and Addington has reached the $1 million mark.

That’ almost 30% of the $3,451,000 goal.

The campaign has eight weeks to go.
