Peacekeeping – Canada

Soldiers from CFB Kingston will soon resume taking part in peace keeping missions.

The Liberal government is set to notify the United Nations that Canada is ready to step up its contribution to international peacekeeping.  The feds will announce today that Canada will provide money, troops, police officers and military equipment to a yet-to-be-named U-N mission. The Liberals promised during last year’s election campaign to return Canada to peacekeeping after years of dwindling participation.

Bank Robbery

Kingston Police are hoping the surveillance pictures will lead to the arrest of a man who robbed the National Bank at 2682 Princess Street.

The pictures clearly show the face of the man who had a full beard and was wearing a Tilly hat and shorts.

The man demanded money from a teller and walked out of the bank with cash shortly after 2:00 p.m. yesterday.  He left the bank and was seen walking west on Princess Street.

Downtown Parking – Hanson

A major renovation project is set to get underway at the Hanson Parking Garage in Downtown Kingston.

The city is spending 1.1 million dollars to do work including repairs to concrete, structural steel and installation of self-harm barriers.

Those barrier to prevent people from jumping have already been installed at the Chown Parking Garage.

The work starting next month will mean up to 120 parking spaces will be out of commission.  The parking garage will also close for about four weeks after Thanksgiving.

Kingston Transit – The Tragically Hip Day

Kingston Transit set a one-day ridership record on The Tragically Hip Day.

29,700 were recorded during the free bus service last Saturday and officials believe the number is over 30 thousand dollars because it was hard to keep track of all the people using the buses.  That’s close to 3.5 times the normal Saturday ridership.

Kingston Transit hopes the free bus service and positive experience people had on the buses will lead to increased ridership.

Someone has even posted a YouTube video of the crowd on one bus singing Bobcaygeon on their way to The Tragically Hip’s show.
