KEDCO Report

The report from the committee reviewing the Kingston Economic Development Corporation recommends it become two separate agencies…one for tourism…the other for economic development.

The report goes to city council next week.

The report says Tourism Kingston should keep its name and the economic development agency should be rebranded.  It is recommending the two organizations be launched in early 2017.

The report also says economic development should concentrate on attracting investments, working with local business, and supporting knowledge based industries.

It also recommends the introduction of what’s called…A Continuous Improvement Performance Measurement System.

Possible Hate Crime

Kingston Police say they’re investigating a possible hate crime.

A news release from police says a female couple believe they were targeted due to their sexual orientation after a roll of duct tape was thrown at them from a pickup truck on Princess Street near King Street East.  It narrowly missed the couple.

It happened around 11 on the night of Monday, May 30th.  The black truck is believed to be an older model Chevy Colorado and it was loaded with furniture.

Anyone with information that could help in the investigation is being asked to contact Kingston Police or Crime Stoppers.

OPP Ask for Help

The OPP is asking anyone with information about two separate incidents to contact the Napanee detachment.  A man approached a girl who just got off her school bus in Enterprise and asked her if she wanted a ride last Friday.  The girl ran home.  The man was driving a black truck.

Police are also investigating a report of a man in a black Dodge van with Alberta plates taking pictures of the playground and parking lot at Tamworth Public School on Monday afternoon.  The man was also seen taking pictures of buildings on Concession Street in Tamworth.

Police do not believe the incidents are linked and are working closely with staff from both Enterprise and Tamworth Public Schools.
