Public Works – Sleeping on the Job

The man in charge of Public Work has confirmed a picture on Twitter was a City of Kingston employee sleeping in a city vehicle.

Someone posted the picture of the man sleeping in the vehicle in a donut shop parking lot.

Jim Keech says the public works employee has been told the city doesn’t want workers to sleep in vehicles – but says the man did nothing wrong because he had worked through his breaks during the overnight shift and wasn’t abusing time or equipment.

Harassment

A 27 year old Westbrook area man has been charged with harassing a female co-worker.

Police say the two had broken off a relationship and the man began exhibiting jealous, obsessive and controlling behaviour that led to several confrontations and threats.  Police say he even spit on the woman.

She went to police after getting dozens of text messages on March 29th and 30th.

The man has been charged with two counts of uttering threats to cause bodily harm, assault, mischief and two counts of criminal harassment.

Mirror Man

A 27 year old Kingston man has been charged with mischief and breach of probation after five vehicles…including four taxis had their side mirrors kicked off.

It happened around 2 a.m. Wednesday in the area of Princess and Division Streets.

Police say the man’s alcohol intake appears to have influenced his decision and he even jumped on the hood of one vehicle that was damaged.

Fentanyl Arrest

The woman wanted by Kingston Police after she got the powerful drug Fentanyl with a forged prescription has been arrested in Niagara Falls.

Niagara Regional Police arrested the 29 year old woman from Mississauga last week.  The woman faces 11 charges from Kingston Police including fraud, uttering a forged document and breach of probation.

Police Chase – Arrest

A police chase through downtown Kingston has resulted in charges against a 51 year old Kingston man.

Police say they first noticed a car go through a stop sign on Patrick Street around 2:15 Tuesday morning.  At one point the car was driven across the grass in McBurney Park and the wrong way on a one way street.  Police found the vehicle in the parking lot of an east end motel.  The car was towed.  The owner called police to say it had been stolen but was arrested when he attended police headquarters Tuesday night.  He faces multiple charges including Dangerous Driving and Flight from Police.

Kingston – Provincial Leaders Visits

Premier Kathleen Wynne put about $3 million in the Ontario Liberal Party bank account last night before her trip to Kingston today.

The party held its annual 16-hundred-dollar-a-plate Heritage Dinner in Toronto last night.

Premier Wynne will visit students at Regiopolis-Notre Dame Catholic High School this morning.

She’ll tour Innovation Park this afternoon and take part in a roundtable discussion with representatives from the Eastern Ontario Integrated Accelerator and Incubator Program.

Deputy Premier Deb Matthews visits the GreenCentre at Innovation Park yesterday…then spoke with students at Queen’s.  Matthews says the GreenCentre shows Kingston is a national leader in green chemistry processes and technologies.

Overnight Parking Ends

Kingston’s Winter Parking Regulations expire today….

The ban on parking between 1am and 7am runs from December 1st to March 31st.

And that means you can legally park on city streets overnight starting tonight.
