Fatal Fire – Picton

The Fire Marshall and OPP are investigating following a fatal fire in Picton on the weekend.

A 25 year old man died in the fire that destroyed the house at 30 Main Street.

A news release says a Prince Edward County OPP officer came across the house that was fully engulfed in flames at 8:55 on Saturday morning.

Three people made it out of the home.  They were treated for smoke inhalation.

A post-mortem examination is scheduled for today in Ottawa.

Charges Dropped

Charges against two women arrested in connection with two violent robberies during early February have been dropped.  27 year old Lisa Judge and 30 year old Ashley Litchfield were both released from custody last week.

34 year old Tara Scott pleaded guilty to both robberies last week and was sentence to five years in prison.

The crown said she had provided information that convinced him to drop the charges against the two other women.

Wind Turbines – North Frontenac

The Mayor of North Frontenac is more than happy with the news wind turbine power projects weren’t approved for North Frontenac or Addington Highlands.

Mayor Ron Higgins sent an e-mail simply saying…No wind turbines for NF or AH.  He then wrote…Woo-HOO.

Higgins took to Twitter to say they now have to prepare for the next round of RFP’s.

The province announced the 16 projects it has approved for alternative energy last week.

There were two projects proposed for North Frontenac and one for Addington Highlands.

The only one approved for the Kingston region is the BluEarth Solar farm in Stone Mills Township.

Queen’s Relay for Life

A major accomplishment for the Queen’s Relay for Life.

It raised more than $100,000 for the Canadian Cancer Society.

It took place between seven Friday night and seven Saturday morning.

It was the tenth anniversary of the Relay for Life at Queen’s.  It raised $60,000 last year.

Million Dollar Winner

Someone who bought a LOTTO 6/49 ticket in Kingston has won a million dollars.

The winning ticket for the Guaranteed $1 Million Prize Draw on Saturday was sold in Kingston.

So far – there’s no word on who is the winner.

La Salle Causeway

Public Works and Government Services Canada is planning to close one lane on the La Salle Causeway from 7 p.m. to 6 a.m. today and Wednesday.  The lane restriction is to accommodate the installation of a guardrail and railing.  It says the work may have to be delayed if there is inclement weather.
