Snow Storm

The winter storm bypassed Kingston but hits other areas…including Toronto and Ottawa where dozens of flights have been cancelled or delayed.

Kingston only got a couple of centimetres of snow overnight.

There was also some freezing rain and you may need some time to scrape the ice off your windshield if you were parked outdoors.

School buses for Kingston were all running this morning.

Buses for North Hastings were cancelled along with transportation for the Upper Canada Board and Catholic Board of Eastern Ontario.

Litchfield Arrested

The last of five people wanted for two violent break- ins and robberies at homes in Kingston last month has been arrested.  Kingston Police got a tip from the public and picked up 30 year old Ashley Litchfield in the area of Bath Road and Palace Road around 9:30 last night.

Voyeurism

A 59 year old hockey referee from Bath has been charged with videotaping a female referee in the change room at the Invista Centre on Monday night.

The man was arrested after the female referee found a cellphone propped up in the change room

It had been recording her changing.

Police were called and the man has been charged with voyeurism.

His phone was seized as evidence.

Man Arrested – Animal Cruelty

A 20 year old Kingston man has been charged with injuring an animal, breach of probation. speeding and driving while suspended.

Kingston Police arrested the man on Monday when an officer stopped a vehicle for speeding on Jackson Mills Road.

The 20 year old had been wanted on a warrant since November after his girlfriend’s dog was left with a severely broken front leg and bruising.

The dog’s leg had to be amputated.

Taxi Ride – Knife

A 24 year old woman from Kingston is facing charges of assault and transportation fraud after a knife was pulled on a cab driver who had given her a ride from Toronto to Kingston last week.

Police say the 29 year old cab driver from Pickering brought the woman to Kingston around 3:00 a.m. last Thursday.  She told him she had to get money from a family member at an apartment on Wilson Street but pulled a knife on the driver and he never got paid.

Police Officer – Obit

Flags at Kingston Police Headquarters are at half-mast after the death of 36 year old detective, Brent James Griffiths.

Griffiths passed away at his home last Thursday following a 20 month battle with cancer.

Griffiths joined Kingston Police in 2001 after graduating from the Police Foundations program at St. Lawrence College.

He was married and had seven year old twins.

Griffiths grew up on Wolfe Island and attended Frontenac Secondary School.

A celebration of his life will be held at the Portsmouth Olympic Harbour at 3:00 tomorrow afternoon.

Hospital Update

The Providence Care Board of Directors is hosting an open house at Memorial Hall on Saturday to update progress on Kingston’s new hospital.

The session runs from 1-3 p.m. with a formal presentation on services moving to the new hospital, making the move and more starting at 1 p.m.

The hospital hasn’t been without controversy because it’s being built as a public – private partnership.
