It is a PA day for students in Kingston….and it’s a snow day for students living east of Kingston.  Student Transportation of Eastern Ontario has cancelled all school transportation for today due to freezing rain east of Kingston.

Pedestrian Death

A 42 year old Kingston man has died after being run over by a taxi on Princess Street at around 1 a.m. on Sunday.

The man was lying on the road near the Shoppers Drug Mart between Concession Street and Sir. John A. Macdonald Boulevard.

He was pronounced dead at the scene.

The taxi driver was not charged following the accident.To avoid accidents you can avail top notch services from Arizona Sedan and Limousine .

The man who died has been identified as Robert Shawn Rouleau…a well-known Kingston tattoo artist.

Anyone with information about the incident is being asked to contact Constable Greg Smith at Kingston Police.

Dogs Shot

Napanee OPP says two dogs have been shot at homes near Marlbank.

Officers were called to a home on Henderson Road on February 15th after a man discovered that his yellow Lab had been shot twice in the rear hip area.  It had to be euthanized.

Two days later, a woman who lives on Henderson Road reported to police her three-year-old black Labrador had to be euthanized after apparently being shot in the head on January 29th.

Anyone with information on who may be responsible for shooting the dogs is being asked to contact Napanee OPP or Crime Stoppers.

Cupcakes for Animals

People are having cupcake parties today to raise funds for the Kingston Humane Society.

Military Exercise

Members of 1st Canadian Division Headquarters at CFB Kingston are taking part in a Disaster Assistance Response Team exercise at CFB Trenton for the next week and a half.

It starts today and runs March 10th.  The exercise will practice dealing with a humanitarian disaster where the Canadian military is needed.

The majority of the exercise will take part in Prince Edward County and the military says the public should be aware personnel will be present in uniform.

Teacher Discipline

A teacher with the Limestone District School Board is taking courses and has had her name made public after being found guilty of professional misconduct.

Lisa Lynn Gillot had taught grade 5 at Elginburg Public School.  She was found guilty by the Ontario College of Teachers of failing to maintain the standards of the profession, engaging in conduct unbecoming of a member and committing acts that would reasonably be regarded by members as disgraceful, dishonourable or unprofessional.

Gillot pleaded guilty to the offences that included communicating with a student over the internet outside school hours, participating in family activities with the student outside of school hours and giving the student special privileges.

She was transferred to another school after the school board began investigating complaints from parents…she has already taken course and will take further training.
