Capitol Condo – Too High

Score one for those opposed to high rise development in downtown Kingston.

An architectural peer review commissioned by Kingston’s planning department says the 20 storey Capitol Condo is too high for the area.

The report says the proposed development does not comply with the City’s planning policies for the area and approving it would set a precedent.  It says the height and angular plane amendments are excessive and would have a considerable impact on the character of the area.

It recommends a building in the low teens – and says it should be set back from both Princess and Queen Streets.

The planning committee is expected to consider the condominium proposal this spring.
