School Transportation Cancellation – Spinoff

Students who take buses to school got today off because of a warning of an extended period of freezing rain issued by Environment Canada.

Triboard Student Transportation announced early this morning that all school transportation for Limestone District, Algonquin and Lakeshore Catholic and Hasting-Prince Edward students had been cancelled today due to the weather.

Events scheduled for today at schools have been postponed and are being rescheduled.

Today is officially Kingston’s 5th Annual Pink Shirt Day.

Schools have postponed their participation until tomorrow because school buses have been cancelled.

The campaign to end bullying is led by the Boys and Girls Club, St. Lawrence College Child and Youth Care students and Kids for Kids.

Gallienne – Further Charges

The St. George’s Cathedral choirmaster sent to prison for sexually abusing choirboys over 25 years ago is facing three new charges.

Another person has come forward with accusations that they were assaulted by John Gallienne when he was a choirboy.

Gallienne is now 71 years old and has been charged with three counts of indecent assault on a male between 1975 and 1978.

Gallienne was sentenced to four and a half years in prison after pleading guilty to abusing 13 boys between 1975 and 1987.

He was also convicted of sexually abusing a boy in B.C. and was refused a pardon when two other victims came forward in Kingston and he pleaded guilty to additional charges in 2004.

LCVI

A fight outside LCVI led to a hold and secure at the school during the noon hour on Tuesday.

The Limestone District School Board initiated the hold-and-secure procedure for about half an hour at LCVI and Calvin Park to ensure student safety and avoid disrupting classes.

A group of students were fighting but police say nobody was charged because there was no official complaint about anyone being assaulted.

Drugs – Millhaven

Authorities are investigating after drugs were discovered at Millhaven maximum security.

Correctional officers at Millhaven intercepted an inmate attempting to bring contraband into the prison last Friday. They seized 15 grams of heroin and 5.5 grams of marijuana.  The O-P-P has been notified and the institution is investigating.

Collins Bay Lockdown

A lockdown has been put in place at the medium security unit of Collins Bay Institution.

A news release from the Correctional Service says the lockdown started around 11 a.m. yesterday to enable staff to conduct an exceptional search.

It goes on to say the search was ordered to ensure the safety and security of the institution, its staff and inmates.

Visitors who have already planned a visit are being asked to contact the Institution.

Car – Pedestrian

Kingston police now say a 20 year old pedestrian hit by a vehicle on Monday night suffered serious injuries.

A 22 year old Queen’s University student has been charged with impaired driving following the hit and run crash around seven Monday night.

It was the beginning of a hit and run driving spree that ended when a witness flagged down police and they arrested a suspect.

On top of the impaired driving charges… Steven Trojanovic faces other charges including dangerous driving.
