New High School

The design concept for Kingston’s new intermediate and high school shows a three storey building at 175 Kirkpatrick Street with a unique circular structure at the front.

The design was shown off at the Limestone District School Board meeting Wednesday night and a public consultation session will take place at LCVI on November 3rd.

It is part of the consultation process to finalize the design – but – there is still a push on for Kingston City Council to re-open the debate over using a portion of the Memorial Centre property for the school.

That effort is being backed by the school councils for KCVI and QECVI, Sydenham District Association and Greater Kingston Chamber of Commerce.

Here’s the link to the video showing the design concept:

It is also a fundraising initiative supporting Veterans Voices of Canada.

Flags of Remembrance-Kingston has selected Dominium Assistance Dogs as the local benefactor.

Police Budget

The Kingston Police Service Board has approved a $39.4 million budget for 2016 that includes a 2.5% increase in wages and benefits.

The operating budget is an increase of $934,000 over the 2015 budget.

Wages and benefits for the 202 police officers and 59 civilian employees make up almost 87% of the budget.

Drug Bust

It’s a case of being in the wrong place at the wrong time for this Kingston bike riding drug dealer.

Kingston Police investigated a complaint about a bicycle theft around 8 a.m. Wednesday and arrested a man in the area of Queen and Montreal Streets.

It turned out the bike he had wasn’t the one that was stolen – but the 29 year old Kingston man has been charged with possession of marijuana and crystal meth for the purpose of trafficking and breach of probation.

Motherhouse – Public Tours

If you’ve ever wonder what goes on at Providence Motherhouse on Princess Street near the intersection of Bath Road – it’s holding an open house on Saturday for tours and a tea.

Providence Motherhouse is the home of the Sisters of Providence of St. Vincent de Paul and isn’t normally open to the public.

The Open House takes place tomorrow from 1-4pm.

1 Wing Headquarters at CFB Kingston is the headquarters of the armed forces Tactical Helicopter Squadrons even though no helicopters are actually stationed in Kingston.

But – helicopters will be flying over Kingston on Sunday.

Election – Environmental Faith Group

Election Day is Monday and a new group in Kingston has decided the candidates need some help from above.

Action Partnership: Many Faiths-One Creation is a new multi-faith environmental action group that’s inviting people to pray with them on the steps of city hall at 4pm on Saturday.

Reverend Steve Hoffard of St. Mark’s Lutheran Church says it is timely with the election coming up to  remind people that climate challenges, ending poverty and responding with justice to Indigenous rights cannot be ignored.
