Major Incident

Kingston Police still haven’t released any details about what they’ve referred to as a major incident under investigation this morning.

A crime scene has been set up on York Street and the street is closed between Division and Chatham Streets.  Police also have crime scene tape surround a park on Pine Street.

Identification officers are searching for evidence in the area.

KEDCO Review

Kingston’s Mayor says he’ll propose a review of the Kingston Economic Development Commission when city council meets next Tuesday.

Mayor Bryan Paterson says he’s proposing a review led by a committee made up of 2 city councillors, the city’s CAO, 2 KEDCO board members and its interim CEO, and 4 members of the public.

Paterson says the committee would hold extensive public consultations and explore things like whether Tourism Kingston should be part of KEDCO.

The mayor’s letter comes after a group of people bought a newspaper ad in the Saturday newspaper advocating for an independent review of KEDCO.

Paterson says he had already been working on his proposal before the ad appeared in the paper.

New High School – Meeting

Trustees with the Limestone District School Board and Kingston City Councillors have been invited to a town hall meeting on Kingston’s new high school.

The meeting will take place starting at 6:30 tomorrow night in the library at QECVI.

Organizers say people in the community want trustees and city councillors to hear their feelings on where the new high school should be built – the Memorial Centre property or the QECVI property.

Advocates of a city council led initiative to review the Memorial Centre property say the last chance to get it on city council’s radar is the council meeting next Tuesday night.
