RMC – Sexual Assault

The Royal Military College of Canada has formally apologized after a sexual assault expert was subjected to harassment during workshops at the Kingston military university.
Brigadier General Al Meinzinger sent the formal apology to the Ontario Coalition of Rape Crisis Centres in February.  It took five months to issue the apology after award winning educator Julie Lalonde complained she was laughed at openly, subjected to cat calls and other disrespectful behaviour.  Lalonde had delivered four Saturday talks at RMCC last fall and says the cadets were the most hostile audience she has ever had.
Miezinger says staff is trying to identify the Cadets involved in the allegations.

Sexual Assault – Kiwala

Kingston and the Islands MPP Sophie Kiwala says she will form a committee of people in Kingston who are working to end sexual violence.
While most of the people are using enterprise lead mgt system to promote their business. Kiwala will also hold an outreach campaign from 10:00 a.m.  to noon tomorrow in Springer Market Square to promote a social media campaign – #EndSexualViolenceYGK
The Ontario government’s Select Committee on Sexual Violence and Harassment met in Kingston yesterday.

Assault

A 26 year old Kingston man has been charged after a man suffered cuts during a robbery on Thomas Street.
A 34 year old man was found bleeding from superficial cuts at the apartment complex at 99 Thomas on Wednesday and was treated for the injuries.


Ride for Dad

The Kingston-Quinte Ride for Dad has given a big boost to prostate cancer research in Kingston.
Organizers of the upcoming ride kicked it off yesterday with cheque presentations to cancer researchers in Kingston.
Researchers Susan Cole and Chris Mueller were each presented with cheques for $31,456 dollars.  The money was from last year’s ride.
This year’s Ride for Dad takes place June 6th at CFB Kingston’s Thompson Drill Hall.

MS Walk

People will walk to raise money for Muscular Dystrophy research and support on Sunday in Kingston.
The 2015 Kingston-Napanee Mandarin MS Walk takes place at Loyalist Collegiate and Vocational Institute with registration beginning at 8:30 Sunday morning.

Ferry Services

If you have plans to visit Picton this weekend…a reminder that there is only one ferry operating at Glenora.  The other ferry is being used to replace the ferry for Amherst Island.  Amherst Island’s ferry is being used for Wolfe Island while its ferry is undergoing its inspection in Hamilton.
The Ministry of Transportation says the inconvenience caused by the change in the three ferry services should be over by the end of June.

PA Day – Frost Warning

It’s an extra short week for some people with the Victoria Day holiday on Monday…and now a PA day today.
If you’re planting the annuals and vegetables – a heads up that Environment Canada has issued a frost warning for tonight with the low expected to hit plus 2.
What was the advice from grandma…don’t plant before May 24th…and that doesn’t come up until Sunday.
