A new $5 million dollar laboratory for research into producing microscopic things like biosensors for detecting E. coli and ultra-thin anti-corrosion coatings for vehicles is opening in Kingston.
The Kingston Nano-Fabrication Laboratory will officially open in Innovation Park tomorrow.
It’s a collaboration between Queen’s University, the Canada Foundation for Innovation, the Ontario Ministry of Research and Innovation and CMC Microsystems.

Chemistry Discovery – Kingston

A 25 year old graduate of Regiopolis -Notre Dame Catholic Secondary School and Queen’s University has made a discovery many chemists previously thought was impossible.
Anton Toutov has discovered potassium can be used as a catalyst to make silicon bond to carbon.
Toutov is a PhD Candidate at California Institute of Technology.
He made the discovery while he was working on a way to speed up some chemical processes by using potassium, instead of precious metals.

Compton Street Fire

Kingston Police have arrested a woman in her 30’s for arson after fire damaged an apartment on Compton Street.
Firefighters were called to 16 Compton Street at 8:30 last night.
They found heavy smoke on the second floor and were able to quickly put out a fire in a second floor apartment.
Nobody was injured.
Initial damage was estimated at $90,000.


KEDCO – Closer Look

The Kingston Economic Development Corporation is getting some heat from city councillor Adam Candon.
Candon says it gets far more per capita in funding than economic development agencies in other cities.
KEDCO is getting 2.7 million dollars this year.
He wants council to take a closer look at the funding and what the money is being spent on.

Texting PSA

A stop texting while driving commercial is being produced in Kingston.
Kingston Police, Kingston Fire and Rescue and Frontenac Paramedic Services are working together on the public service announcement.
The video was being shot at several locations in Kingston yesterday including city hall and the Kingston Fire and Rescue Training facility on Terry Fox Drive.
