Domestic Assault

A 24 year old man from Kingston is being held for a bail hearing today after a domestic violence incident early today.  Police were called to a residence in the city’s west end around two this morning and arrested the man.  He faces a charge of assault and breaching conditions of his release on other charges.
The victim was taken to hospital for treatment.

Domestic Charges

Another case of domestic violence in Kingston has resulted in charges against a 52 year old man.
The man has been charged with two counts of uttering threats, one count of uttering threats to animals, choking, assault and unlawfully entering a dwelling.
Police say the man threatened to kill his ex-girlfriend and her pet…then broke into the apartment of a neighbor…choked a man and threatened to kill him.

Impaired – Man Charged

A driver has been arrested after a crash at Princess Street and Bayridge Drive.
Two vehicles collided around 9:30 last night.  Nobody was injured but a 29 year old man was arrested and charged with impaired driving.


Police Services – Bill CF-51

The Kingston Police Services Board has decided to support the controversial Bill C-51.
The controversial Harper government anti-terrorism legislation has prompted protests across Canada…including Kingston.
The bill will give new powers to police and Canadian Security Intelligence Service.
Board chair Andrea Risk says it is giving support in principal to the bill…but says it is also concerned over privacy issues raised by the legislation.

Le Chien Noir Chef

The Chef at a well-known downtown Kingston restaurant is taking part in a competition to find the top chef in Ontario.
Derek Macgregor of Le Chien Noir is competing in the Ontario Culinary Challenge at the National Arts Centre in Ottawa on May 5th.
The event features 15 top Chefs with a grand prize of $10,000.

Pink in the Rink

The Kingston Frontenacs Pink in the Rink jersey auction has raised almost four thousand dollars for the Canadian Cancer Society.
The Frontenacs Hockey Club and Cataraqui Centre have presented a check to the cancer society for $3,878.82.  The money came from people who bid on autographed, game-worn jerseys from the Pink in the Rink game against Plymouth on Friday, October 17.

Smudging Ceremony

The Little Cataraqui Creek Conservation Area will be hosting a native Smudging Ceremony tomorrow.
It’s the first time one of the ceremonies has taken place at the conservation area.
First Nations leader and teacher Paul Carl will perform the ceremony.
The event will start at 2pm tomorrow.

Earth Week Preview

Earth Week is coming up next week and the city is kicking things off with Giveaway Day tomorrow.  That’s the day you are encouraged to put reusable items out on your front lawn for someone to pick up.
And there are tours of the Recycling Centre on Lappan’s Lane from 10am to noon.
Pitch In Day…the annual litter cleanup day…is set for next Friday.

Blue Dot

Kingston set to “Connect the Blue Dots”.  It’s a national day of action for the environment.
“Connect the Blue Dots” is taking place on the grounds of St. Andrew’s Presbyterian Church at the corner of Clergy and Princess Streets starting at 1pm on Sunday. It coincides with other events across the country as part of the David Suzuki Foundation’s Blue Dot movement.

The National Farmers Union of Kingston, Frontenac, Lennox and Addington, Loving Spoonful and the Kingston Community Garden Network are celebrating the UN Year of the Soil tomorrow.
They’re hosting a special session called Soil: Our Common Ground at Sydenham Street United Church from 9am to 1pm tomorrow.
