John Counter Boulevard

One of Kingston’s main commuter routes is closed.
John Counter Boulevard is closed from Portsmouth Avenue to Princess Street for urgent repairs to the culverts along the roadway.  It will be closed until tomorrow night.
The VIA Rail station will still be accessible from Princess Street.

HDH Phone System

The telephone system at Hotel Dieu Hospital has failed and no calls can be received at its main switchboard.  The phone number will ring but the call won’t be answered.
The hospital issued a statement this morning saying Bell is on site working to fix the problem.

City Council

Kingston city councillor Jim Neill is hoping to change the balance of power on council.
Neill is proposing a simple majority of council should be able to overrule the mayor.
His proposal will come up at council tonight.
The current rules require a two thirds majority of council to change a ruling of the mayor.


PSW Charged

A Kingston-area woman has been charged with thefts from one of her clients in her role as a Personal Support Worker.  The 48 year old woman was charged following an investigation in the disappearance of a Medic Alert bracelet.  Kingston police say the investigation led them to a pawn shop, where the bracelet and other jewelry were found.
The victim was a 92 year old woman.

Man Exposing Himself

Kingston Police hopes the public will be able to help investigators track down a man who has been exposing himself to women in the area of Queen’s University.
The first incident happened around 10:45 at night on Sunday, March 15th.  A female Queen’s student was leaving the Athletic Centre on Earl Street and saw a man expose himself in the driver’s seat of his vehicle.
Two other incidents happened in the same area.
The man is described as being in his 20’s with light brown or dirty blond shaggy or spikey hair.  He was clean shaven and driving a new small four-door sedan that was dark blue or black in colour.
Anyone with information on these incidents is asked to contact Kingston Police or Crime Stoppers.

Taser Man

A nasty case of domestic assault resulted in a Kingston man being zapped with a Taser.
Kingston Police say a woman was assaulted in the couples Division Street apartment on Sunday.
A 38 year old man was arrested after multiple 9-1-1 hang-up calls around 4:30 yesterday morning.
He’s been charged with assault with a weapon, uttering threats to kill members of the woman’s family, resisting arrest and mischief for damaging the apartment.

CPR App

If you need someone who knows how to perform CPR – Kingston Fire and Rescue now has an app for that.
Kingston is the first Canadian city to introduce a free mobile app called Pulse Point.
People who know CPR are being encouraged to download the app.
When Kingston Fire and Rescue’s dispatch centre gets a call – the app will alert people trained in CPR so they can help if they are nearby.  It also shows where to find a public defibrillator.

Imagine Kingston

A group called Imagine Kingston has come up with its ideas for the city’s future.
The Whig reports about 50 people met yesterday to discuss their vision for Kingston in 2025.
The session came up with three main priorities…improvements to the airport…encouraging entrepreneurs and developing Kingston Penitentiary.
The ideas will be passed along to city council.
