Gas Leak

Norman Rogers Drive was closed for most of yesterday after a contractor cut a gas line.
The crew was installing underground cable for Bell Canada and accidentally cut the gas line.
Utilities Kingston was able to shut off the gas while repairs were made and no evacuation was needed.

Hot Tub Fire

Firefighters managed to keep a fire on the deck of a home on Cordukes Road from spreading to the house but damage is estimated at 50 thousand dollars.
Officials say the fire started when the homeowner was trying to thaw out a hot tub with a propane heater.
The hot tub and a large screened in area were badly damaged in the fire early yesterday.

Pervert Sentenced

A 25-year-old man from Kingston is going to prison for harassing and touching teenage girls in last spring.
The man had been riding a bicycle when he approached the girls in the Hillendale, Valleyview and Strathcona Park areas.
Darren Gaspe pleaded guilty to sexual interference, touching for a sexual purpose and criminal harassment involving threatening behavior.
He was sentenced to four years in prison…minus 232 days he’s spent behind bars since being arrested last May.


Drug Bust

A 29 year old man has been charged with possession of ecstasy for the purpose of trafficking after Kingston Police executed a search warrant at a home in the 200 block of Division Street.
Police raided the home late Wednesday afternoon and seized four ounces of MDMA in solid form…it’s known as Ecstasy or Molly and police say it was it was being ground and put into capsules for sale in Kingston.

Two Men Arrested

Two Kingston men in their 30’s remain behind bars after being arrested for hassling and threatening people in the University District and yelling at people in the Queen’s Stauffer Library.
It started with a man trying to pick a fight with a pedestrian on a pathway between Brock and Johnson Streets around 5:30 in the afternoon on Wednesday.
Another man threated to kill a person carrying a pizza if they didn’t give him a slice.
It continued with two men yelling and shouting in the Queen’s library.
34 year old Marc Lesarge and 36 year old Clayton Woodman have been charged with robbery and two counts of causing a disturbance.  Lesarge has also been charged with assault and assault with a Weapon.

Frontenacs – Down Syndrome

When the Kingston Frontenacs play their final regular season home game tonight – they’ll be rocking some special socks.  The players will be sporting special theme socks to support World Down Syndrome Day.
The Rock Your Socks initiative encourages people to wear different colour socks to raise awareness about the cause.
The socks have been designed by two children…Pip and Noal McCallan.  Their mother Tara has created Happy Soul Project and Frontenacs Executive Director of Business Operations, Justin Chenier says it inspired the team to help promote breaking down the stigma of people being different and create an atmosphere were those differences are celebrated.
