Afghan War Memorial

Kingston will have a chance to honour members of the military who died in Afghanistan when the Afghanistan Memorial Vigil comes to the Royal Military College this week.
The vigil will be open for public visits from 9am to 3pm tomorrow and Thursday in Currie Hall.
It’s made from the original granite memorial plaques from the Kandahar Airfield Cenotaph.
The Commander of the Canadian Defence Academy, Major General Eric Tremblay, will preside over a commemoration ceremony at 9am tomorrow.

Joyceville – Drugs Seized

An investigation is underway after tobacco and steroids were found at the medium security Joyceville Institution.
A news release says staff members at Joyceville discovered three packages containing the contraband on Sunday. The total value of the stuff if it had got to the inmates would have been around $6,000.

Whitfield – Torch

The Pan Am games torch has been unveiled by Kingston native Simon Whitfield and game officials.
Whitfield will be one of the people running in the torch relay and is helping promote the Pan Am Games.  The torch relay begins May 31st and it will arrive in Kingston on July 2nd after travelling through Gananoque.  It will leave Kingston on July 3rd en-route to the opening ceremonies in Toronto on July 10th.


Driver Charged

A 25 year old man is facing four charges after a car took off from a Roadside spot check at Perth Road and Rutledge Road on March 4th.
Police found the car after it hit a utility pole at the corner of Perth Road and Latimer Road but didn’t find the driver.
Police charged Calvin Taylor of South Frontenac on Thursday of last week with driving while under suspension, failing to report an accident, disobeying an officer directing traffic and possession of a schedule 2 substance.

Lake Ontario Park

Kingston has won an award for work to revitalize Lake Ontario Park.
The project has received a regional citation from the Canadian Society of Landscape Architects.
Upgrades to the park were completed in 2013.
