Beer and Wine – Grocery Store Sales

Beer and wine will be sold in grocery stores in Ontario.
The Toronto Star says the province will announce in its spring budget that craft beer and major beer brands will be sold along with bread, milk, fruit and vegies in grocery stores.
The Star report says wine will also be sold in 200 of the provinces largest grocery stores but – hard liquor sales will be limited to the LCBO.

Bulls – Kingston

It’s a shock for Ontario Hockey League (OHL) fans and the city of Belleville.  The Belleville Bulls have been sold and will become the Hamilton Bulldogs next season.
Bulls owner Gord Simmons says he’s sad about having to sell the team but the ownership group felt had no choice and the team could not continue to operate in Belleville’s aging Yardmen arena.
The owner of the American Hockey League (AHL) franchise in Hamilton is the new owner of the OHL team.  The AHL team is moving to St. John’s next season.

Propane Tanker

Police are looking for a man who stole a propane truck and abandoned it on Battersea Road at Unity Road early this morning.
A man was seen in the area and police have a description – but he was gone when they arrived.
The tanker was carrying six thousand litres of propane and police say two vehicles narrowly missed hitting the truck because of where it had been abandoned.


Ronald McDonald – Recaptured

Maybe he was just looking for the Hamburglar.
Ronald McDonald escaped from the minimum security unit at Collins Bay Institution.  McDonald was noticed missing during the head count at 11:30 Wednesday morning.
Correctional officers captured him about an hour later.
The Correctional Service says it is conducting an investigation into the escape of inmate Ronald McDonald.

New High School Locations

The Limestone District School Board has short listed three locations for its new high school to replace QECVI and KCVI.
One of those locations is across the street from LCVI on Van Order Drive.
The former Calvin Park Public School is currently being used as the Limestone Community Education Centre.
The other possible locations for the new high school are the property at QECVI and the Cooks Brothers/Megaffin Park/Katings Field property.
Trustees approved the three possible sites at their meeting this week.
The Board hasn’t said when it will make the final decision on the location of the new high school.  It is working with an architectural firm to find the best location.

Arrests – Thefts from Vehicles

Kingston Police have busted a 26 year old woman and 43 year old man for breaking into vehicles on Alfred Street.  Police say the pair was in the process of breaking into a vehicle when they were arrested at about four this morning.  They’ve been charged with mischief and trespass by night.
The 26 year old woman has also been charged with breach of probation.

Loyalist – Impaired

A 49 year old woman has been charged after a single vehicle crash on County Road 6 in Loyalist Township on Tuesday.
Police found a vehicle in the ditch on Wednesday and arrested the driver.
Nancy Steele of Loyalist Township is facing a charge of impaired driving.

March Break

It’s Friday the 13th – the eve of March Break!
The popular Maple Madness event at the Little Cataraqui Creek Conservation Area kicks off tomorrow.
The 26th edition of the Kingston Rail-O-Rama model train show takes place at the Ambassador Conference Resort tomorrow and Sunday.
The City of Kingston has a lengthy list of spring break activities taking place next week.

Seedy Saturday

The event is aimed at people inte3rested in open-pollinated seed, saving and sharing the seeds and food security for the Kingston area.
Seedy Saturday takes place at LCVI on Van Order Drive from 10am to 3pm.
